Learning by doing. How Ramirent AS improved their modular building design process with Configurator
Ramirent AS, based in Norway, provides construction companies with modular temporary buildings such as site cabins, offices, and lodgings. They manage three modular systems, each with 20-35 configurable modules. To better serve their clients and streamline their operations, they integrated a web application developed by Creatomus.
The Problem Ramirent AS Faced:
Handling hundreds of business clients and a large fleet of modules, Ramirent AS needed a more efficient way to design and produce documentation for their temporary building projects. Their manual process was time-consuming and had room for potential errors.
The Solution by Creatomus:
Ramirent AS decided to start using Creatomus’ web application, a configurator tool designed for the modular building sector. Here’s what it offers:
- 2D Drag-and-Drop Interface: This online tool allows users to design modular buildings using a simple 2D interface.
- 3D model: The volumetric representation of building is generated on the fly. Rendered images of the model are automatically extracted and combined with 2D drawings.
- Module Customization: Users can select modules and add optional extras based on client specifications.
- Construction Documentation: Users can easily create and export floor plan drawings in PDF format, detailing module lists, optional extras, and access components.
- Two Separate Portals: The configurator has a Client Portal for end-customers and a Staff Portal for Ramirent’s internal team. After the initial testing period was completed, Ramirent AS fully adopted the tool. Currently, five of their salespeople use it, having produced over 500 designs for more than 100 clients.
Benefits and Next Steps:
The recent updates to the software have made it even faster and more straightforward to use. Ramirent’s sales team was able to start using it without any specialized training. While the software currently focuses on design and documentation without pricing functionality, there’s potential to add this feature later. Plans are also in place to connect the configurator with Ramirent Flow, a manufacturing execution system, in order to smooth the flow from design to production.
Conclusion:
The collaboration between Ramirent AS and Creatomus has simplified the modular building design and documentation process. As both companies continue to work together, further improvements and integrations are anticipated.
